User Experience Roadmap

Client: Australian Institute of Family Studies

Project type:  Scoping Study, UX Roadmap, Capability Building

The Challenge

Explore how & why practitioners and service providers engaged with Child Family Community Australia (CFCA) and Expert Panel (EXPP) resources to support their use of evidence to improve their practice with vulnerable communities, with the aim of creating a CFCA and EXPP user experience roadmap.

Research approach

  • 12 contextual inquiries with 16 participants was carried out to capture insights on current strengths, ways of working, challenges and what could be improved to prepare and support practitioners and service providers to practice in an evolving environment

  • 8 x User Research Interviews were carried out incorporating a card sort

  • A codesign workshop to share insights and ideate concepts 

  • An environmental scan on other evidence and knowledge translation providers in the sector was also conducted.

Key deliverables

A user experience road map with recommendations based on user insights to inform future development of the service offer was created for implementation in 2020/2021

My role

I led this project, and worked directly with the AIFS project team to implement the research project, synthesise insights, and shareback with key stakeholders.  I also installed a corresponding skills uplift program to build the AIFS’ team capability in Human Centred Design methods to embed the methodology in the organisation.  

Impact on the business

Website changes were made on the basis of the key recommendations made as a result of the this research together with work to on changes to the content strategy & information architecture of the CFCA and Expert Panel website. A proposal for the creation of an innovation centre has been put forward for funding. The innovation centre will be responsible for bringing to life the concepts derived through this project.
